Perhaps Elijah is just a super soaker, but I have to ask... does your little one seem to pee more than the normal amount? Elijah just seems to pee a ton. LOL! I notice it especially at night. I have found nothing that can stand up to a night with him. I do use cloth diapers, but I also tried 4 different brands of disposable diapers. None of them could hold the flood. Everything would be drenched the next morning - the diaper, his clothes, the sheets. At least with the cloth the diapers are just really, really wet, but not dripping. Of course, I had to try several things with the cloth as well before I found something that could at least hold it all in. I have even tried changing him in the middle of the night, but he is still soaking(and leaking in some cases) in the morning.
Is it just Elijah, or does the fact that the CSF drains as well make them have that much more output? Or maybe it's a combination of both. He pees more than the regular baby plus the extra fluid makes it even more.

That is so funny! My husband and I were just talking about that the other night. I was talking about how HUGE Miles wet diapers get! My husband said- "well, he does have extra fluid draining" I guess I had never really thought of it, but it does makes sense! Glad we are not the only ones :)
I remember asking a doctor about that, and he said that it should only happen when a shunt is first placed - as their bodies are initially getting rid of the excess fluid. Otherwise, it's more of a "what goes in must come out" rule.
If you think about what happens when there isn't a blockage in the ventricular system, the CSF would be reabsorbed by their bodies and the excess fluid would be peed out anyway.
So I think the only time a hydro baby would be peeing more would be if their hydrocephalus was caused by over production of CSF.
That being said, my daughter can totally soak her diapers too! So maybe there is something going on that the doctors haven't thought about! :)
I have had these same thoughts too. Cayman is our only child so we don't have much comparison to what a typical diaper would be, but there's rarely a time I check her diaper and she's not wet. She also only has one kidney so I've always wondered if that one kidney has to work overtime all the time. We asked the doctor about it and he said that the extra excretions probably wouldn't be anything we would notice...who really knows.
We went through a few weeks like that. Every morning, Elisabeth would wake up soaked....and I couldn't figure out why. And then suddenly it stopped. So hang in there...maybe it's just a phase? Keeping my fingers crossed.
Kendal can really soak a diaper too!! I also noticed at night it is worse. Who knows, you may be on to something!
